Interview with Andrew - Shop Assistant at Stromma Netherlands

As a Shop Assistant, I am the key to the perfect day out in Amsterdam.

What is your name and what do you do at Stromma Netherlands?
My name is Andrew and I have been working at Stromma as a Shop Assistant for six months.

What does your job involve?
I am responsible for one of our ticket shops in the city. I provide information about Amsterdam and sell tickets for our products, attractions and museums. I also sell souvenirs. In some of our ticket shops I share the responsibility with other colleagues, but there also smaller ticket shops where I am solely responsible. I am often sent to different locations, which makes the job more varied. I am given a lot of responsibility: I make sure my shop is well presented and aim to provide excellent customer service.

What are some of the best things about your job?
I have been living in Amsterdam for seven years and really love the city. When I started working for Stromma, I realised that I didn’t know the city as well as I thought. I got to see a whole different side of the city. I am proud to be able to help our guests discover the city. When I assist guests in one of our ticket shops, I feel as if I am showing them my home.

What are you most proud of?
I always make sure I am up to date on everything Amsterdam has to offer. When friends or family are staying for a few days in Amsterdam, they ask if I have any tips and I can always suggest something suitable. As a Shop Assistant, I help people plan the perfect day out in Amsterdam. As Stromma we describe ourselves as ‘your host in Amsterdam’.

How would you describe your relationship with your colleagues?
We're on the same wavelength and quickly become friends. We also learn from each other.
